Campus life

There is so much that living on campus adds to your student experience! On campus, you’ll have flexibility when it comes to managing your time around studying, giving that everything you need will be only a short walk away. In addition, you will be able to join in a range of events and activities that will help you make memories and enjoy the best that Herts has to offer.

You could go on a night out at the on-campus club, The Loft, try your hand at roller skating for the first time at one of the Active Student events or even attend one of the many society events. There’s something for everyone on campus, and so many opportunities to find friends and make amazing memories!

Discover our campuses

Herts is divided across two main campuses: College Lane and de Havilland. Each campus has its own accommodation, along with a 24/7 Learning Resources Centre, gym, student support service centres, and food outlets, amongst other facilities. The two campuses are about a 15-minute walk apart, but there is a free shuttle bus that you can take from one campus to the other.

College Lane Campus

College Lane campus is home to the university’s creative arts, science and health-related subjects. On this campus, your accommodation will be close to a range of great facilities. You can use the common rooms to relax with friends, work out in the 24-hour gym or have a drink in our on-campus pub or cafes. This campus also houses the campus nightclub, which promises may great nights out throughout the year. There are also restaurants for you to eat in or grab something on the go.

de Havilland Campus

The de Havilland campus is where all of the university’s business, law and sport subjects are based. The student housing is close to the Sports Village which includes a gym, swimming pool and climbing wall. You can get meals in the on-campus restaurant or bar Ambition (in the Enterprise Hub) on days you don’t feel like cooking. You can also use the common room to play pool, video games or just to hang out with friends.

Local area

Our campuses are favourably located, providing easy access to many great places by car, bus or train!

From either campus, you can take a 20-minute bus ride to the historic and vibrant city of St Albans, where you will find a range of shops and unique things to do. Watford is only a 20-minute drive away and is home to a large shopping centre and the Watford football club. And if you’re looking for even more excitement, you can hop on a train into London, which is only a 25-minute train ride from Hatfield station.

The options really are limitless, and you can rest assured that you will be able to enjoy an exciting student life while at Herts!
