What we do

Our principal activities are to provide a range of government services to local people and businesses. Our privacy policy covers the website of PAL including those parts of the site managed and hosted by other organisations.

Providing visitors with anonymous access

You can access our homepage and browse most of the public site without first logging on using a unique personal login. The PAL website does not enable its visitors to communicate with other visitors or to post information to be accessed by others.

Automatic collection of information

Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council automatically collects statistical data about usage patterns on the PAL website. This statistical information helps us develop and improve our website and website accessibility. This information does not relate to an individual.

Cookies

A cookie is a small piece of data that is sent to your browser from a web server and stored on your computer’s hard drive. A cookie cannot read data off your hard disk or read cookie files created by other sites. Cookies do not damage your system.

The PAL website only uses cookies with interactive pages, such as online forms, when it is necessary to maintain a unique ‘id’ on your browser whilst you use those pages. Any cookies that remain on your computer from PAL do not contain any record of the information you may enter, nor any other personal information, and are only used so that interactive sessions function correctly.

Disclosure and visitor choice

PAL does not store any of the personal information captured about individuals who access the website except where you have voluntarily chosen to give us your personal details via email, or when enquiring about or applying for any of our services. In these case the personal data you give to PAL will be used exclusively for providing you with the information or service which you have requested and will not be shared with any other organisation.

Confidentiality and security

We do not give visitors to our website the option of using a secure transmission method to send us their personal data except in instances where financial details are requested and submitted. In these cases the secure transmission conforms to Microsoft’s 128kb encryption.

All our employees and data processors who have access to, and are associated with the processing of personal data, are obliged to respect the confidentiality of our visitors’ personal data.
